“The feelings that hurt most, the emotions that sting most, are those that are absurd - The longing for impossible things, precisely because they are impossible; nostalgia for what never was; the desire for what could have been; regret over not being someone else; dissatisfaction with the world’s existence. All these half-tones of the soul’s consciousness create in us a painful landscape, an eternal sunset of what we are.”
― Fernando Pessoa
There are a number of interpretations emanating through this piece, which took me a considerable time to finish.
In this emanation, I felt that She wanted me to uncover both the yin and Yang aspects of her being, of all women being. And to equally portray her desire as well as her grief. These were formidable tasks. Because women are constantly in states of fluctuation, and through those states lies the potency of soul. It is the space between spaces, a metaphysical desire for completion. A pause between eternities.
She is created in colors of rust, teal, crimson, indigo and gold.
And though she is beautiful, I felt that she wanted the observer to ask three questions of her:
What is she yearning for?
What has she lost?
And are they the same?
