Circe - Poster Print
Circe - Poster Print
Circe is a dark goddess of magic, and the daughter of Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft herself. Renowned for her vast knowledge of potions and herbs, through the use of magical potions and a wand or a staff, she transformed her enemies, or those who offended her, into animals.
In translation, Circe means falcon, and in many myths she is associated with the bird of prey. It is said she would circle her victims as she enchanted them and offered potions of hallucinations. Tales of trees dancing and the ground shaking to confuse and distort the path kept many a sailor from grounding on her Island.
One lover who scorned Her for another woman resulted in Her wrath turning him into a woodpecker and yet another tale resulted in the other woman being turned into a serpent.
But we must always go deeper. In other myths not only did she turn men into beasts but women who foolishly crossed her into serpents as well. We can only surmise this as the words of those who feared her powers and the transformation therein. It was shape shifting and magick that was witnessed; The women were not serpents at all but Priestesses under Her training.
Further hidden tales reveal a compassionate Goddess of intoxicating beauty who wore a purple robe and whose island was paradise, with her attendants the nymphs and priestesses who tended the plants and flowers of her herbarium and learned their secrets.
That it was as Avalon, a sanctuary to all that sought the Mysteries.
Hidden images are incorporated for the viewer to discover on her own. The original print was created at an astrologically favorable time with magickally appropriate aspects.
